BEELDENGROEP KINDEREN

SCULPTURE GROUP OF CHILDREN ( FRANS) HEIRBAUT

The sculpture group of eight (grand)children is made of plaster. Their ages range from toddler to adolescent. They are depicted true to life, each of them looks ahead of him or her and is positioned symmetrically. It looks like a classical theater flanked by two columns. On closer inspection, the column on the right is a bundle of broken trunks, perhaps the result of a storm. This detail provokes thought: what will the future of these children look like? Tenderness and security contrast with concern about the unpredictability of the future. A feeling that every parent and grandparent will certainly recognize.

HEIRBAUT Frans (1948)

Frans Heirbaut is the son of sculptor Gisleen Heirbaut. He took a course in stone and marble working (1969) and obtained a diploma in higher art education in sculpture (1974) and drawing (1975) in Sint-Niklaas. At the European Centre for Craftsmen in Venice he studied restoration techniques (1979). In 1990 'The Shepherd' is inaugurated with a folk festival in Sinaai.
