AROUND CHAMBRE D'AMIS - GHENT
In 1986, ‘Chambre d’Amis’ in Ghent was a unique event that attracted a great deal of interest. Art was on display in a number of private homes.
The SMAK is currently looking back on this event in a documentary exhibition.
Works are on display in various museum galleries; these now form part of the SMAK’s permanent collection, and are by three artists: Heike Pallanca, Haim Steinbach and Susanne Kriemann.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is ‘Le Décor et son Double’ by Daniël Buren.
Daniël Buren (1938) is a leading conceptual and abstract minimalist artist.
In his works, Daniël Buren is primarily concerned with ‘integration into the environment’.
The ‘stripe motif’ is his trademark.
