Visit ECSTASY AND OREWOET

Dear Art Lover,

if you are going to Leuven, here is a tip for a visit worthwhile.

ECSTASY AND OREWOET

(Orewiet: old word for 'strong emotions, spiritual glow, ecstasy')

At PARCUM - Abbey Park Leuven runs an exhibition on 'ecstasy' through confrontation of religious heritage and contemporary art.

Ecstasy occurs in different religions.  From the Middle Ages we know the mystical tradition with Lutgardis of Tongeren, Hadewijch and Teresa of Avila, among others.

In modern times, all kinds of spiritual and transcendental possibilities exist. The desire for ecstasy is great: man's desire to get out of his own self, into relationship with others, with the universe and with God.

In the exhibition, religious art by contemporary artists speaks to this deeply human longing.

Until November 9, 2025

Visitors are invited to enter into dialogue with the artworks and reflect on the problems and challenges of our time.

The science trail with walking brochure is free.
