Dear Art Lover,
If you are visiting Brussels, here is a recommendation for a worthwhile visit.
LUZ Y SOMBRA: GOYA at BOZAR
Bozar - Brussels is dedicating an exhibition to the work of the famous Spanish painter Goya.
Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) had a long career. He originally painted in the Spanish tradition.
He developed into a visionary artist and gave impetus to modern art.
He was a painter at the royal court, made portraits of nobles and designs for tapestries.
His etchings and engravings bear witness to his vision of the circumstances of the time and life in Spain, for example in the series “Los Caprichos”.
All kinds of abuses and the terrible years of war with France (1808-1814) inspired him to express his horror in his “Desastres de la Guerra”.
Struck by deafness, he created works that appear surrealistic, including “The House of the Deaf Man”.
He died in Bordeaux in 1828.
The exhibition enters into dialogue with the work of Goya's contemporaries and later artists.
