Visit publiekslieveling-eng

Dear Art Lover,

if you are going to Antwerp, here is a tip for a visit worthwhile.

PUBLIC FAVORITES.  An intimate look at masterpieces.

The Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp is undergoing renovation and expansion. The idea arose to show part of the collection to the public during this closure period.

Forty-three museum enthusiasts chose a work from the museum. A commendable initiative. Why 43? Art collector and patron Fritz Mayer Van den Bergh (1858-1901) died at the age of 43, and after his death, his mother had 43 social housing units built.

The 43 works of art from the museum are now on display in the Maagdenhuis, a former orphanage for girls in Antwerp, including Bruegel's ‘Mad Meg’ and the beautiful ‘Jesus and John’ from the 16th century.

Antwerp - Maagdenhuis, Lange Gasthuisstraat, 33 - until September 12, 2027
