Visit THE CLEAN ROOM

Dear Art Lover,

THE CLEAN ROOM at the Guislain Museum Ghent

In her exhibition “The clean Room,” co-conceived by Erwin Mortier, artist Sofie Muller brings up an extremely delicate subject: the malleability and fragility of human beings.

In 2024, Sofie Muller had an exhibition in Malta featuring an installation of life-size alabaster sculptures of newborn babies.  The exhibition was initially highly controversial but eventually the artist was awarded the prestigious Malta Biennale Prize. This award increased her international fame.

A great ethical concern underlies her work, which seeks to reflect on the important questions surrounding genetic manipulation.

The nude alabaster sculptures of infants have been given a place in the former collective dining room of the Guislain psychiatric hospital. This place clearly has a connection to the purpose of the exhibition.

Museum Guislain Ghent until August 31, 2025
