Dear Art Lover,
if you are going to Ghent, here is a tip for a visit that is worthwhile.
JULES DE BRUYCKER MSK GHENT
The Museum of Fine Arts - Ghent brings an unmissable exhibition of Jules De Bruycker (Ghent 1870 - 1945) graphic artist and painter.
He produced drawings, etchings, watercolors, gouaches and oil paints. He was a true-born citizen of Ghent, who recorded life in Ghent in a very personal, striking way.
He observed people in various places in what was then Ghent: on the market, in the Vismijn, in the pub, in the waiting room of the station, in the Patershol, in streets and squares. The “kuip” of Ghent was one of his favorite subjects. He also found fruitful inspiration in his travels, including Paris.
He often had a satirical view of man, but at the same time he loved people and was “touched” by their often poverty-stricken existence. Similarly, he was “touched” by the horror of war.
Jules De Bruycker uses a unique, personal style, especially in drawing. A grand master.
